Vacancies:
Communications Assistant (Volunteer)
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to enhance and build on their communications in a creative and diverse Global human rights organisation. The successful candidate will join PEN International’s Communications Team, working remotely with occasional travel to the Pen International's office, if required. The role will report to the Communications and Campaigns Manager.
Please note this post is an unpaid Volunteer position, part time (3 days per week), for a duration of 3 months period to cover a busy spell. You will be reimbursed for travel and lunch when travel to the office is required.

Job description:
- Support the development of PEN International’s internal and external communications, including media, digital and social media.
- Support the development and maintenance of PEN International’s website, PEN social media channels and other digital platforms.
- Support in creating e-newsletters, ad -hoc Eventbrite pages, and other digital products
- Contribute to maintaining PEN’s brand identity through its digital outputs
- Contribute to creating audience analysis and engagement and reach statistics.
- Assist the team brainstorming communications, media and digital strategy for campaigns, fundraising and events.
- Assist the team to design simple graphics for social media posts.
- Participating in cross-programme project teams as required
- Facilitating cross-learning and collaboration across other PEN programmes
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the post
The job description sets out the main duties that are currently needed, there may be some variation from time to time as the nature of the Communication teams requirements change.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of communications, including media, digital and social media
- Knowledge and experience of content management systems (i.e. WordPress, Craft)
- Fluent spoken and written English, other languages would be an asset
- Ability to write to the highest standards across a range of formats and audiences.
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to accountability, transparency and fairness.
- Degree or equivalent experience.
- Interest in an arts/literature/journalism or human rights environment
- Appreciation, knowledge and understanding of freedom of expression issues.
- Commitment to equality and cultural diversity and their application at work.
