With the PEN community celebrating its 100th birthday this year, we are connecting as many people as possible - including you - to make sure its birthday present is extra special!
We are excited to offer you the opportunity to join our team of supporters and get involved in a positive movement: The PEN 100 Challenge. This virtual event will see friends of PEN coming together to make a big difference for those who need it most, raising both key funds and awareness, to help us overcome the disastrous combination of the effects of the pandemic and worrying increase in threats to freedom of expression around the world.
The idea is simple.
Set yourself a challenge associated with the number 100. This could be baking 100 yummy cookies, reading 100 mind-blowing books, running a distance of 100km, gifting 100 hours of volunteering time, or writing a 100 word-long poem. You can go-it-alone, or get friends involved too - think of this as your chance to get creative and put the fun into fundraising!
Once you have thought of an idea, the next step is to set up a JustGiving page where people can sponsor you. Create or log in to your JustGivng account, visit PEN's charitable JustGiving page here, and click the orange "fundraise for us" button to get started with your JustGiving PEN 100 Challenge page.
You will be able to share this fundraising page on social media with the hashtag #PEN100Challenge, in addition to via text messages with friends, family, and colleagues. Make a real difference by kindly asking them for support with a donation to your page to promote literature and linguistic rights, defend freedom of expression, protect the rights of women and minority writers, as well as writers at risk around the world.
You are an inspiration!
Whoever successfully raises the most money will be declared the winner, featured on PEN's website and social media. The deadline to complete your challenges and reach your fundraising targets will be September just before our 2022 Congress in Uppsala.
We will also give shout outs to those who come up with innovative challenge ideas and go the extra mile too. Do not forget to tag us at PEN International on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram so we can share the great things you are doing!
We are here to help.
We will be here to support you along the way - offering handy tips and experienced advice. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a chat, email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Only with ongoing donations like yours have we been able to defend freedom of expression, protect writers at risk, defend linguistic rights, and promote literature across frontiers for 100 years. Thank you.
